This page is about Old Man McGucket's laptop that Soos found in the bunker.

Note how Soos picks up the laptop rather indiscreetly. Some fans take this to mean that he already knew about it and wanted to pick it up without looking like a genius. A good theory. However, after Blendin's Game, I am a bit skeptical about how much Soos actually knows. I still cling to a theory that Soos once caught Stan in the act and forced him to fess up, but the clues left in Soos's past gave more merit to the theory that he is just as dumb as he seems.

Next, the label. "Property of F." We know now that the laptop came from "McGucket labs," which more than likely makes Fiddleford Hadron McGucket the owner. I feel like that was nothing more than a setup for Society of the Blind Eye.

The laptop reappears in Sock Opera when Dipper is trying to crack the password. Note that Bill's intentions in stealing Dipper's body were to destroy the laptop and make off with his journal, because he was "getting way too close to some major answers." This was a clever writing trick to let us know that there were secrets on the laptop, but not show them to us, thus keeping our interests peaked. (Not to mention, they didn't have to come up with the info on that laptop.) This also solidifies the fact that Bill's goal has something to do with the journals. Update: it seems they did  come up with the info on the laptop. The apocalypse???

Also note the opening sequence of the laptop. I'll leave it to the other decoders to analyze this sequence, but it seems to me that it tells us something about how the portal works or what it does. The triangle shape at the end clearly connects it to the portal.

When Bill said that Dipper was "getting way too close to some major answers," it proved that the laptop had all the answers. It was foreshadowing Society of the Blind Eye. It also proves that McGucket was very involved in the decoding process. Not just as an assistant, but more as the author's other half.

Soos and the Real Girl drops a possible clue. A Post-it note stuck to Soos' computer says "Password: FIXINIT1". FIXINIT1 is 8 characters, the same length as the password to the laptop. And remember that it was Soos who repaired the laptop. This adds to the theory mentioned above that Soos knows more than he seems. If that really was the password to the laptop, why wouldn't he tell Dipper? But, if it's not, then that subtracts from said theory. Why would Soos keep his computer password stuck to his computer?
