30 long years and it's all led up to this...
This is one of many times we find out that something big happened 30 years ago. On July 4, 1982, there was some nuclear testing in Russia. That date sound familiar?
Computer scanning
It seems the computer is scanning the infinite worlds mentioned in Journal 3's cryptogram for one particular reading. It will likely take the better part of season 2 or longer for this to happen. But what is it searching for? Stanley, maybe?
6-fingered glove
The glove Stan puts on obviously has 6 fingers. In the next episode, it is confirmed that the author has/had 6 fingers. This could only mean that the author has been to the Mystery Shack.
Gideon awakens
There are two points to make here. First, the commercial chose to include this picture, to make us believe that something would happen to Gideon in this episode. Obviously, he will break out of prison eventually, but I guess not for a while. Second, this picture gives us the key to solving the cryptogram. It's in a key vigenere cipher. Again with the 30 years thing. The portal was opened on July 4, 1982.
Is it coming from deep space? An enemy weapons site?
These suggestions provide some clue that the portal is extremely high-tech. Also, it is another indication that we will more than likely see aliens sometime in Gravity Falls.

Assuming that base is in Washington, those are some fast agents. They flew across the country overnight. And another point about the government: Quentin Trembley was a government cover-up. Is he somehow related to the journals, and maybe even their author? Alex said that the President will return "when America needs him most."
